Proudly Sponsors Caring 4 Kids Golf Classic

Once again, Landscape Solutions has been blessed to be involved in an incredibly worthy charity event. On Monday, August 25, 2014, Landscape Solutions was a presenting sponsor of the 20th Annual Caring 4 Kids Golf Classic to benefit the Christian Children's Home of Ohio.

The event consisted of a great day of 36 holes of golf (scramble format) at Hawk's Nest Golf Club in Creston, one of Ohio's finest golfing venues. Proceeds raised will go to support CCHO's mission to "bring healing to hurting children and families in His name."

Proceeds were raised from entry fees for individual golfers and foursomes as well as sponsorship funds raised by participants.

Landscape Solutions President Stephanie Spear Helps Raise Support for Worthy Cause

Landscape Solutions takes pride in being a successful company with a social conscience. Besides our unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility, we also champion social causes. One such cause that is near and dear to the heart of the President of Landscape Solutions, Stephanie Spear, is that of the Christian Children's Home of Ohio. Stephanie and her family have personally served on work and mission trips at the CCHO with their church in addition to financial support over the years.

This last weekend, Landscape Solutions partnered with the Mid-Ohio Corvette Club in a wonderful event, "Cruisin' for the Kids!" at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, OH. The cruise traveled from the fairgrounds to the Christian Children's Home of Ohio. While the event itself was free, participants were encouraged to make donations with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Christian Children's Home of Ohio. The event was a success, with beautiful weather and over 300 participants.

The Emerald Ash Borer Continues to Damage Indiana Trees

on Sunday, 13 July 2014. Posted in Landscape Solutions Blog

What You Need to Know

During the summer months, central Indiana school properties are busy with construction and maintenance projects. When the kids are on vacation is the perfect time to do some of the bigger projects. Driving around central Indiana, you are certain to see new construction, roofing, parking lot repair, and cutting down trees. Yes -- several area schools have lost trees to the pesky Emerald Ash Borer. And school properties aren't the only places this pest is causing destruction. Homeowner assocations, property managers, and everyday homeowners are faced with the struggle to protect their ash trees from infestation, treat them once it has set in, or lose them when it's too late.

The Emerald Ash Borer was first confirmed in Indiana on April 21, 2004. Millions of ash trees stand dead throughout Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. Ever since its accidental introduction in the United States and Canada in the 1990's, the invasive Emerald Ash Borer has killed 50 to 100 million ash trees and threatens over 7 billion trees throughout North America. This pesky beetle only attacks ash trees. The beetles are metallic green with purple segments under their wings, about ½" long, and have flattened backs.

One Stop Shopping for HOA Officers

The 24th Annual HOA Educational Conference & Trade Show is a great opportunity for officers of Homeowners Associations to meet with providers of all types of services. Most HOA officers have many responsibilities besides their obligations to their community. The demands on the position can be very time consuming and at times, overwhelming. With service providers gathered under one roof, HOA decision makers can find providers for landscaping, snow removal, legal advice, and more.

Landscape Solutions' very own Bob Callaghan is the president of the Central Indiana Chapter of Community Associations Institute and understands the many responsibilities placed on HOA officers. For over 40 years, Community Associations Institute (CAI), an international organization with more than 31,000 members, has been dedicated to building better communities, by providing education and resources to community association homeowner leaders, professional managers, association management companies and other businesses and professionals who provide products and services to community associations. The mission of CAI is to inspire professionalism, effective leadership and responsible citizenship - ideals reflected in communities that are preferred places to call home.

Saving for a Sunny Day

Using a Rain Barrel for Supplemental Watering

There is a saying in Indiana, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." Currently, we find ourselves in that late spring/early summer season where near daily rain showers are to be expected. Storms can blow through an area and drop an inch of rain in an hour. But fast forward a few weeks and we are very likely to be experiencing dry weather.

Average annual precipitation in the state ranges from 37 inches in northern Indiana to 47 inches in the southern part of the state. The wettest month of the year is May, during which the state averages btween 4 and 5 inches of rain across the state. As the summer progresses, the amount of rainfall decreases -- sometimes dramatically. Uneven distribution or precipitation in the summer occasionally limits crops and can be damaging to your lawn and landscape.

Mild droughts are not uncommon in Indiana during sommer months when the hot days cause maximum evaporation. Sometimes, these droughts become severe enough that local watering bans are enforced and homeowners helplessly watch their lush, green landscape go brown. Smart, environmentally conscious homeowners take advantage of the rainy days by collecting rain water in barrels to later be used for supplemental watering.

Much Ado About Mulch

What to Consider When Selecting and Installing Mulch

After a seemingly endless winter, homeowners are anxious to get outside and start their spring clean-up and planting. On the agenda for most will be installing new mulch. What purpose does it serve? What should you consider when selecting and installing mulch? How much do you need? Cubic feet, yards, dyed, depth -- so much to think about. Mulch serves many a purpose other than improving the appearance of your landscape. The answers to the decisions you need to make will depend on your preferences and needs.

Here are a few of the things to consider when selecting and purchasing mulch as well as some pointers to help you determine how much you need.

We are Celebrating Spring with New Propane Powered Lawn Equipment

It's no secret, residents of central Indiana have survived a long, hard winter, but finally, spring weather is upon us. No sooner do Hoosiers put away the snow shovel than they have to tune the lawn mower. While homeowners are preparing to tackle their spring lawn duties, we at Landscape Solutions are preparing, too. However, as a premiere lawn service provider for commercial properties and homeownwer's association, our preparation is on a somewhat larger scale.

While we stayed very busy combatting the relentless snow and ice of this last winter for our customers, we are excited to lose the plows and switch gears to our lawn and landscape services. We offer our services not only with the highest quality, but with a keen awareness of the importance of protecting our natural environment. While "being green" may be a catch phrase with other companies, at Landscape Solutions our commitment to eco-friendly practices is demonstrated in our lawn and landscape maintenance practices and in the methods we use to provide our services.

To that end, we have expanded our fleet of propane powered equipment. Take a look at our newest team members! (pictured)
